September 30-October 2, 2011
South Shore Harbour Resort & Conference Center, League City, Texas
The 2011 Lone Star Retreat will be held at the South Shore Harbour Resort & Conference Center,
the same place as the 2009 retreat. As in 2009,
we have secured a large, convenient ballroom for our main area and smaller breakout rooms for
the classes. We have arranged for three three well-known polymer clay artists to teach a class each. The group will be divided
so that everyone has an opportunity to take a class from each instructor. Between classes, participants will have free time to
work on projects, ask questions of the teachers and socialize.
Instructors:
Leslie Blackford -
Off With Your Head. Learn to create whimsical narrative sculptures that feature interchangeable heads made of polymer
clay over small light bulbs. The focus will be on creating opposing emotions of the head of each figure. These little sculptures
are expressions of our always changing moods and are certain to strike up a conversation where ever they are placed.
Merrie Buchsbaum - Polymer Clay Beads: Mastering the Art of Color and Pattern. Using just
black and white plus one color of your choice, you will make a fabulous sampler of patterns that you can use to make a variety
of beads for stringing or mosaics for tiles. You will learn to make several patterns that may be combined to make more complex
canes. In addition, expand your knowledge of bead shapes. Learn about conical, pillow, and tube beads that can enhance your
ideas. The combination of color, size, proportion and shape of your polymer designs are limitless. Come prepared for endless
possibilities, fun, and tidbits which are ideal for expanding your artistic horizons.
Lindly Haunani - Confident Color Mixing
Join Lindly Haunani for a colorful, fun and insightful overview designed to increase your confidence when mixing colors using
polymer clay. Through a series of hands on exercises, Lindly will guide you to mix your personalized “magic mud” (and explain
its importance in color mixing), explore the possibilities of neon colors (as a way to brighten colors) and how to mix deep
verdant darks and vibrant lights (to add impact to your work).
You will leave with a Pivot Swatch Set- destined to become a valuable reference tool in your studio, while gaining a
deeper understanding of the properties and possibilities inherent in YOUR favorite color. There will be hundreds of samples on
display – come prepared to ask questions and leave with some answers about confident color mixing.
