| Houston Polymer Clay Guild
Board meeting minutes
Saturday, October 20, 2007
The meeting began at noon. Present were: Bob Wiley – President,
Paula Kennedy – Secretary and Ronalyn Hurley – Treasurer and
Membership Coordinator. Absent were Rebecca Wells-Stout, Meg
Marchiando and Carmen Anderson.
Ronalyn gave the treasurer’s report. We currently have $7,572.30
in the bank account, including fees for nine people taking Lynne
Schwarzenberg’s class. Membership stands at 41 members.
Future meetings were discussed:
October: Bob will demonstrate a simple “Some Assembly Required”
3-d ornament.
November: Bob Wiley will demonstrate how to make a holiday ornament
by covering a clear glass sphere with clay using a mokume gane
technique
December: Holiday party and gift exchange to be coordinated
by Rebecca.
Classes:
Lynne Ann Schwarzenberg, Nov. 10-11: Lynne has offered to also
teach an evening class on Friday, November 9 for those people
in the weekend class. She will cover basic techniques needed
for her class and have a chance to see what everyone’s skill
levels are. The class is included in the price of the weekend
class and is optional.
Sarajane Helm: She is coming to teach February 9 & 10,
2008. One day will be “Making faces” ; the other class has not
yet been determined. Participants can sign up for one or both.
Other upcoming activities were discussed:
The Gem and Jewelry Show at Reliant Center is October 27-28.
The Quilt Show at George R. Brown Convention Center is the fist
weekend in November.
The Houston Bead Society Annual Show and Sale at the HESS Club
in the Galleria area is November 9-11.
The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft recently allowed
the Handweavers’ Guild to rent their exhibition space for a
sale. Cost was $600/day. If we were to rent the space it would
have to be when the center is vacant between exhibits. The next
available time for rental is August 2008. That is not a particularly
good time for a sale, and the cost seems high for us. We will
continue to look for a location for a guild sale.
Future Challenges:
Challenges will be held four times per year: January, April,
July and October. The theme for the January challenge will be
“Nature”.
Other business:
Meg will bring the proposed teacher contract to the November
meeting.
Bob will check with Rebecca about adding a box on the website
page with class registration so that the registrant cannot continue
without indicating that he/she has read the class policy including
refunds.
At January’s meeting we will conduct a “Free Cycle” give-away
to fellow guild members of any craft items you no longer want.
The meeting adjourned at 12:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Paula Kennedy, secretary
