Houston Polymer Clay Guild
Board meeting minutes, Saturday, October 18, 2008

The meeting began at 12:10 p.m. Present were: Bob Wiley – President, Ronalyn Hurley – Treasurer and Membership Coordinator, Paula Kennedy – Secretary, and Patricia Daugherty -- Education Coordinator. Absent was Betsy Fraser – Vice-President.

Treasurer’s report: The guild has $7224.49 in the bank account.

Future meetings:
October: Patricia is unable to do the texture demo. Bob will present “covering switch plates using clay and rubber stamps”
November: Patricia will demonstrate Julie Picarello’s “lizard tails.”
December: Holiday party

Classes/Workshops:
Maureen Carlson will be teaching a two-day workshop on February 7 & 8, 2009. The board decided to charge $185 for member registrations before January 1, 2009. After that date members and non-members can register for $200. There will be no deposit; payment is due at registration.

Louise Fischer Cozzi will teach a workshop on May 16 & 17, 2009. There will be no regular guild meeting that day.

The Lone Star Retreat is scheduled for September 25-27, 2009 at the South Shore Harbor Hotel in League City.

Bob is trying to arrange a reception at Jill’s home for the polymer clay artists who will be attending the Quilt Show.

Events:
HCCC canceled the Gathering of the Guilds scheduled for September 20. It may be rescheduled for January.

Challenges:
The challenge for October will be “black & white.” No other colors of clay will be allowed. The challenge for January was to be mixed media. It was decided at the regular guild meeting to move this to the April challenge and do nametags in January.

Retreat:
The fee for the retreat was set at $200 for members/early registration, $225 for non-members & late registrations. Paula will notify Polymer Café magazine and Patricia will inform the other regional clay guilds. Bob will investigate vendors who may want booths.

Nominating Committee:
A nominating committee needs to be named by the January meeting.

Website:
Bob is acting as temporary webmaster until he can work out the kinks on how the website is modified. He has the names of two persons who have volunteered to maintain the website.

The meeting adjourned at 12:40 p.m.
