Houston Polymer Clay Guild
Board meeting minutes, Saturday, March 20, 2010
The meeting began at 12:10 p.m. Present were: Bob Wiley – President, Ronalyn Hurley – Treasurer and Membership Coordinator, Paula Kennedy – Secretary, and Milli Jewell – Publicity Coordinator. Absent were: Betsy Fraser – Vice-President, Patricia Daugherty -- Education Coordinator, and Tabiatha McKeever – Member-at-Large.
The meeting began with an extended discussion of publicity issues. Milli has had difficulty getting information from the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft regarding requirements for a proposal for Hands-On-Houston and/or an Artist’s Hallway exhibit. Bob has dealt with the Center before and will try to see if he can get the requested info.
Several options for a trunk show were considered. Bob had approached Spring Beads in Spring, Beadaholic on Louetta and Antiques, Beads and Crafty People in Pearland. Paula had talked to Bead Boutique in Clear Lake. Milli will follow up with the various possible locations.
Ronalyn suggested we should try to get an article in the Houston Chronicle about guild activities. Paula knows a gentleman who was a Chronicle photographer for may years; she will ask him for information on who to contact at the Chronicle.
Milli suggested we should try to get articles published in Polymer Café, the clay magazine. Bob will submit an article on his “faux wood” technique.
Treasurer’s and Membership reports: Ronalyn reported that the guild has $8,622.81 in the bank. We have 57 paid members.
Education Report: Since Patricia was not at the meeting there was no education report. Paula expressed interest in teaching a class on Viking wire knit.
Future meetings:
March: Milli will demo backfilling.
April: Paula will do the second half of her finishing demo – sanding, buffing, and findings.
May: Bob will demo xerox transfers.
Challenge: The April challenge will be “Skinner blends”.
New Business: : Bob has set up a “Houston Polymer Clay Guild Fan Page” on Facebook for the guild. He will put a link to it on the HPCG webpage.
Since there will not be a retreat this year the board is considering setting up a “Clay Play Weekend” at a local hotel in the fall. There would be no outside teachers brought in and no scheduled activities. Everyone in the guild would be invited to come and play with clay for the weekend. The only charge would be to cover the cost of renting a meeting space.
The meeting adjourned at 12:55 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Paula Kennedy, secretary
