Because the Houston Bead Society will be conducting their mini-bazaar
in our regular meeting room that say, we will meet in the “aquarium
room.”

on Saturday, August 3 at Novel Approach in Friendswood.
Laura Tabakman will teach a two-day workshop on October 4 &
5, 2008. Registration is underway.
Patricia has arranged for Louise Fischer Cozzi to teach a class
on the third weekend in May 2009. There will be no regular guild
meeting that day.
Maureen Carlson will be teaching a two-day workshop on February
7 & 8, 2009. Details to be announced.
Events:
“Feat of Clay” Shoe Exhibit: The exhibit has been installed
in the artist’s hallway of the Houston Center for Contemporary
Craft (HCCC).
Hands-On Houston: In conjunction with the shoe exhibit, HCPG
will be the demonstrator for the Saturday, July 5 Hands-On Houston
at HCCC. The guild has been asked to do something related to
the shoes. We will have the kids make small “flip-flops”. Paula
has made flip-flop-shaped clay cutters, Bob will provide clay.
Bob, Paula, Patricia and probably Rebecca will attend.
Karen Lewis (“Klew”) will be coming to Houston for the Houston
Bead Society Sale the weekend of November 7-9, 2008. The board
is interested in having a social event with her on that Saturday
evening. If Jill is not able to host Karen while she is here
Betsy can do it. Judith Skinner, Karyn Kozak and Jennifer Patterson
will be in Houston for the quilt show November 1-2, 2008. The
board will plan to have a reception for them also.
Challenges:
The July challenge is “bugs.”
He challenge for October will be “black & white”. No other
colors of clay will be allowed.
Board Compensation:
The board discussed the possibility of compensating the board
for their efforts by reimbursing their membership fee for the
duration of their board term. Both Paula and Betsy thought is
was not enough incentive to change someone’s mind in favor of
serving on the board. The general discussion was negative. Patricia
asked if it was OK for her to offer her free place as education
coordinator in Maureen Carlson’s upcoming class to Meg as Meg
had done all the legwork during her term of office. Paula made
such a motion, Betsy seconded and the motion passed.
Retreat: The board will meet at South Shore Harbor Hotel on
Friday, June 27 at 3:30 pm to discuss the possibility of having
the 2009 retreat with the hotel representative and to see possible
meeting areas.
Kim Cavender and Dayle Doroshow have agreed to teach at the
retreat. Patricia is waiting to hear from Barbara McGuire.
The meeting adjourned at 12:55 p.m.
[At the general meeting a motion was made that we purchase
a packet of silk screens from Ginny Eckley to place in the raffle
box. It was seconded and passed by the boardmembers present.]
Respectfully submitted,
Paula Kennedy, secretary
