Houston Polymer Clay Guild
Board meeting minutes, Saturday, February 19, 2011
The meeting began at 12:10 p.m. Present were: Bob Wiley – President,
Betsy Fraser – Vice-President, Ronalyn Hurley – Treasurer and Membership
Coordinator, Paula Kennedy – Secretary, Milli Jewell – Publicity
Coordinator, Patricia Daugherty -- Education Coordinator, and Tabiatha
McKeever – Member-at-Large.
Treasurer’s and Membership reports: Ronalyn
reported that the guild has $9075.54 in the bank and Paypal. We have 50 paid members.
Future meetings:
February:
Paula will teach Kumihimo.
March: Milli will demonstrate
layering with liquid clay.
April: Dakotah will give a
demo on photographing your work.
It was suggested that building a name cane would be a good demo for a
future meeting. Bob said Margaret
Canavan had taught one several years ago.
Betsy will contact her to see if she is willing to teach it again.
Other suggestions were Milli’s faux leather and Hidden
Magic.
Education Report: Patricia reported that there
are seven people signed up for Ronna Sarvas Weltman’s class the last
weekend in March 2011. Ronna is
willing to work with us if we have fewer than 13 students (our break-even
point.)
Publicity Report: The trunk show at Beadaholique
went very well. Milli will send a
Thank You note to Glynna from the guild.
She will ask Glynna about setting regular weekends for our sales,
possibly the first weekend of February and the second weekend of
October. She will also ask about
having the sale Saturday at Beadoholique and Sunday at Beadoholique 2.
Retreat: The teachers’ contracts have been received. We are ready to open the retreat for
registration. Cost is $225 for
members, $250 for non-members, with a $20 late fee for sign-ups after
September 1, and a thank-you gift to those who register before
June 1. The guild will cover the
cost of one hotel room for use by the retreat committee.
Challenge: The April
challenge is matching randomly selected color swatches.
Empty bowls at HCCC: : The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft
will host the Empty Bowls fundraiser for the Houston Food Bank on Saturday,
March 19. The guild has been invited
to demo during the event, but it is on the same day as the guild’s March
meeting. Bob and Paula will demo at
HCCC. Betsy will be out of
town. Since Milli is doing the demo
that day, she will chair the meeting.
Logo: The design submitted by Mary Alvarez was chosen as the
winner. We will work with Mary and
her husband to add color to the design
Nominating Committee: Ronalyn agreed to chair the nominating
committee for officers for the 2011-2012 year. Bob will ask for two additional
volunteers at the general meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 12:57 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Paula Kennedy, secretary
