McCaw Cane Workshop

Join the Houston Polymer Clay Guild and learn the secrets of creating the magical “McCaw Cane” from Sandra McCaw, the originator of this technique. Participants will create intricately patterned canes, bordering on hypnotic, while practicing the execution of precise geometric canes. A variety of cane combining and manipulating strategies will be explored. We’ll look at alternative patterns and uses for the finished canes. Sandra will demonstrate construction of a flower brooch and, if time allows, will guide students through their own creations.

Since the initial mixing of shades is a somewhat lengthy process, students will be required to complete some color mixing before the start of the workshop. A handout with more detailed information will be sent in advance to workshop participants.
Everyone is welcomed. Sandra considers this an intermediate technique, but she has had beginners in class before who've done fine. It just takes patience and willingness to work carefully and slowly. We are offering classes and demos prior to Sandra’s workshop, so everyone who wants to attend can. Workshop days/time: 2 days April 10-11 (Saturday/Sunday) 10:00 am to 5:00 pm with 1 hour for lunch.

$110 For those who paid a deposit, the second installment is due by March 10, 2010.
