Houston Polymer Clay Guild
Board meeting minutes
Saturday, January 19, 2008
The meeting began at 12:08 p.m. Present were: Bob Wiley – President,
Ronalyn Hurley – Treasurer and Membership Coordinator, Paula
Kennedy – Secretary and Meg Marchiando – Education Coordinator.
Absent were Rebecca Wells-Stout and Carmen Anderson.
Ronalyn gave the treasurer’s report. We currently have $8,899.49
in the bank.
Meg was asked to schedule four “clay days” for this year.
Bob announced that the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft
(HCCC) will again hold their Empty Bowls auction in May to raise
money for the homeless. Anyone wishing to donate a bowl to the
auction should drop it off at HCCC.
Bob asked Meg to chair the nominating committee. Merry Maynard
and Patricia Daugherty will be asked to be on the committee.
Dakotah Flannery has said she is willing to be Education Coordinator.
Possible nominees for the At-Large position are new members
Mary Alvarez and Nikki Schwartz.
Classes:
Sarajane Helm’s class was cancelled because of too few registrants.
Donna Kato’s class will be April 5&6. Registration will
be capped at 20. Jill Kershner has offered her home as a location
for the class. If that doesn’t work out, Nikki Schwartz has
volunteered to host Donna and Meg will see if Challenger 7 County
Park’s meeting room is available.
Future meeting:
February: The demo will be leaf canes. Dakotah will be asked
to teach it.
March: The members will be asked for suggestions for upcoming
demos. Because the January challenge was moved to the February
meeting, the raffle for the Makin’s pasta machine will be postponed
until the March meeting. Tickets for the raffle will be $2 each
or 3 for $5.
Challenges:
The challenge for April will be “bugs.” Ronalyn asked if she
should continue to purchase gift certificates from Polymer Clay
Express for the challenge prizes, or rotate through other vendors
– Rings & Things, Polka Dots, Munro Crafts, etc.
Rings & Things has asked about the possibility of posting
an ad on out website. The board decided that it would be appropriate.
It was decided to charge Rings & Things the cost of our
website, which is approximately $10 per month. Rings & Things
will provide the HTML code for their ad so it can easily be
pasted into our website. Rebecca has said that she will continue
to maintain the website after her board tem expires.
Paula brought in a flyer for a weekend of classes with Barbara
McGuire that is being held by the Baton Rouge Bead Society.
Paula was asked to announce the class on the chat group and
email the Bator Rouge representative about advertising Donna
Kato’s class in return.
The meeting adjourned at 12:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Paula Kennedy, secretary
